Global Virtual Forum of Women-Leaders

On June 2012, the Institute of World Policy presented a project “Global Virtual Forum of Women Leaders”. The aim of the initiative was to organize a series of video conferences with famous women all over the world who could share their secrets of success to Ukrainian women.Within the support for the project, IWP held videoconferences with 13 thematic famous women who have reached the peak of their careers in politics, journalism, science, diplomacy. Among them, ex-president of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum, ex-president of Kyrgyz Roza Otunbayeva, vice president of the National Endowment for Democracy (Washington) Hope Duke etc. They shared their views on gender equality in the modern world and revealed secrets of its own success.

As a part of the project, a selection of caricatures’ «Gender equality through the eyes of artists» was presented too. They reflected the current gender situation in Ukraine and in the world. Cartoons were created by famous Ukrainian artists – Marina Turovska, Constantine Kazantsev and Alexei Kustovskiy – and commissioned by the Institute of World Policy.

On May 23, 2013 IWP held a round table “International success stories for promoting women’s leadership in Ukraine” , to discuss methods of reproducing international experience and to enhance gender equality in Ukraine for promoting greater participation of Ukrainian women in political and public life.

Speakers of the event were national deputies of Ukraine Iryna Berezhna and Irina Gerashchenko, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland Arja Makkonen, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Arhita Daudze, President of the International Women’s Human Rights Center “La Strada-Ukraine” Levchenko, the program manager of “Women Leaders” of the National Democratic Institute Elena Ena.

During the roundtable, video and infographics were presented. They visualized the situation of gender relations in Ukraine in the world and in the European context.
