IWP Helped to Organize “Street Eurouniversities” in Moldova

In partnership with the Institute of World Policy, the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) “Viitorul” organized 12 “Street Eurouniversities” in different towns of Moldova.The results of the information campaign “Moldova, Europe”, dealing with different aspects of European Integration, were presented at a press conference in Kishinev on the 8th of October. The project was financially supported by the Open Society Foundations.

The project mirrored an earlier project of the IWP – “Street Eurouniversities” and exemplified the social imparity between Moldova and EU and the expected effects of the Association Agreement. Within these events, IDIS experts talked with citizens about Moldova’s European course and presented by means of 45 cartoons, situation in Moldova compared to the EU in various spheres of life. The images were accompanied by text and statistical data extracted from different studies.

Experts were accompanied by international officials, such as representatives of the EU Delegation in Moldova, Moldovan foreign embassies, and local and central authorities.

As Leonid Litra, senior fellow at the IWP, said in the press conference: ”Citizens do not have time to read thousands of pages of the Association Agreement. Therefore, civil society has an important role to inform the public about the responsibilities and benefits of document. Such information campaigns are necessary in the reform processes”.

The advocacy campaign promoting European values started at Edinet on the 5th of July, 2014.
The predecessor of the project in Ukraine – “Street Eurounivesities” visited more 18 cities of Ukraine and its major impact was recognized with the PASOS Think Tank Achievement Award 2013. In general, about 35 thousand Ukrainians were guests to this unique for Ukraine event.
