01:51 PM 14-9-2013

Institute of World Policy with the support of the International Fund “Vidrodzennia” on September 12, 2013 organised Street Eurouniversity in Mykolaiv – the exhibition of caricatures which illustrate the benefits of European integration for Ukraine. The exhibition “There is a better side of Europe” was opened by a lecture given by Jan Tombinski, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, and Mårten Ehnberg, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Sweden in Kyiv. The EU Ambassador highlighted that the Association Agreement is a very precise plan for the reforms that will allow Ukraine to become a modern and competitive state in which people would not like to leave. The Swedish diplomat, in his turn, stressed that Ukrainians should not be afraid of changes on the path of European integration.

Those who visited our exhibition had an opportunity to discuss their questions regarding European integration with the IWP experts – Alyona Getmanchuk, IWP Director, and Serhiy Solodkyy, IWP first deputy Director.

Within the project “There is a better side of Europe” the IWP has also launched an information campaign “Say YES! to education in the EU” (“Skazhy YES ocviti v ES”) aimed at informing young Ukrainians about the wide opportunities to study in the European universities within the Erasmus Mundus program. The exhibition illustrates opportunities to study abroad.

Furthermore, Jan Tombinski presented a new information campaign “Building Europe in Ukraine” launched by the EU Delegation in Ukraine with the aim to inform the Ukrainian citizens about benefits of economic and political integration with the EU and also to raise their awareness of the issue. The citizens of Mykolaiv saw a street theater performance about the major challenges of Ukraine’s integration with the European Community

Street Eurouniversitie” were previously presented in other Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Nizhyn, Poltava, Sumy, Konotop, Kirovohrad, and Kryvyi Rih. Caricatures presented within this project illustrate two realities in around twenty social, economic, and political spheres of everyday life in Ukraine and in the EU’s members. Caricatures were made by famous Ukrainian artists – Maryna Turovska, Kostyantyn Kazanchev, Ihor Bezhuk and Oleksiy Kustovskyy. Pictures were ordered by the IWP.

Street Eurouniversity is a metaphorical title for public events aimed to support open discussion between civil society leaders and experts with ordinary citizens. Within the project we organise series of exhibitions of caricatures which illustrate the most vital challenges of Eurointegration supplemented by relevant comments and facts.
