Institute of World Policy has conducted videoconference with Lev Gudkov, the famous sociologist, director of the leading think tank in Russia “Levada-Center”.the The main topic of this discussion was post-Soviet political culture, mentality and social affairs. Experts have focused on their peculiarities and specifications in comparison to European and Soviet values and standards. Lev Gudkov is one of the most prominent international experts in such issues.

IWP launched the first “Euro exit poll”

Institute of World Policy gave a start to the first “Euro exit poll” on June 11, 2012. The survey, commissioned by IWP, is conducted by GfK company as a part of “Soft Power of Ukraine in the EU and beyond” project.Football fans from various European states, which stay in Kiev, Kharkov, Lviv and Donetsk will share their impressions of Ukraine in political and foreign policy context. With the help of this large-scale survey the level of awareness of European guests of Ukraine’s political situation in will be determined, as well as their attitudes towards its foreign policy priorities. “Euro exit polls” are conducted at the exits of the stadiums in the Ukrainian cities hosting the finals of the championship.

The results of the survey together with the expert comments will be presented in Kiev after the final of Euro 2012. The “Soft Power of Ukraine in the EU and beyond” project is implemented under Ukraine National Initiatives to Enhance Reforms (UNITER) program which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact Inc.

Videoconference with Zbigniew Brzezinski in IWP

The videoconference with Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, famous American scholar, CSIS counsellor, national security adviser to the U.S. President, took place at the Institute of World Policy on May 30th, 2012.During a videoconference Dr. Brzezinski presented his new book “Strategic Vision: America and the Crisis of Global Power” and discussed with the Ukrainian expert community the issues raised in the book.

IWP launching a long-term project “How to get rid of Post-Sovietness?”

The new long-term large-scale project “How to get rid of Post-Sovietness?” has been launched in the Institute of World Policy. It is being implemented by IWP in partnership with the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (Tbilisi, Georgia) and the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” (Chisinau, Moldova) with support of the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation of the German Marshall Fund of the US. National expert teams from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine will be working on this project.The first project event took place on May 31, 2012. It was an expert discussion (“brainstorming”) on the methodology of the project and indicators of post-Sovietness in politics and social affairs that would be measured within the framework of the project. Experts from three participating countries took part in it.
Ukraine was represented by the professor of the Department for Ukrainian Language of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Larysa Masenko; the deputy director of the Institute of Sociology (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) Eugen Golovacha; the director of the Center for Applied Political Studies “Penta” Volodymyr Fesenko; the head of the Department for Social Psychology (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) Olena Zlobina and the political observer of the newspaper Weekly Mirror Volodymyr Kravchenko. The head of Resource Center of the NATO Depository Library for Georgia Teimuraz Kancheli and the deputy director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives Leonid Litra as heads of their national expert teams contributed to the discussion.
