IWP Creates a “Euroatlantist’s Network”

On September 9, IWP organized an informal meeting with the participants of different NATO programs, study tours, summer shools etc.The event was held as a part of the project “Partnership Matters” with the aim to launch a permanent communication platform for the activists and experts who specialize in the Euro-Atlantic issues.

A number of experts from different Ukrainian cities (Poltava, Poltava, Vinnytsia and Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Lubni , etc) came to Kyiv to participate in the meeting. Together with their younger colleagues from the Ukraine-NATO Civic League, they debated on how to increase support of Ukrainians towards NATO, new idea how to broaden spheres of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, and how to deepen the cooperation between Ukraine and NATO. The key speakers at the meeting were the Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Olexander Lytvynenko and the Canadian expert on international security Lada Roslytska.

The tone of the discussion has been set by IWP director Alyona Getmanchuk who stressed that “Ukraine does not quite clearly define what it wants from the international community, and what it could change.” At the same time she said that the security issue should unite the Ukrainians.

The main purpose of the project “Partnership Matters” supported by the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine is to encourage a wide public discussion about possible formats of partnership between Ukraine and NATO.
