The Institute of World Policy held a seventh Cinema Club Georgian film, presenting the film “Repentance” (directed by Tengiz Abuladze, 1984)”Repentance” is a world-known drama directed by talented Georgian Director Tengiz Abuladze. It demonstrates the global effects of modest trial in the case of one eccentric person, the daughter of the artist, who every night digs out a corpse of a decent member of society, a wise leader, beloved city mayor and friend of all artists. Interesting is the fact, that in the film, which is the main epigraph to further “perestroika” process, the trial itself is shown more than skeptical. It is rather a parody of justice with all the necessary attributes: nervous lawyers shake brushes on hats, dullish judge in robes and wigs, ridiculous arguments. A true sentence for the bloody tyrant Varlam Aravidze makes his first grandson (committing suicide), and then his son (by digging out and throwing corpse of his father as a trash in the outskirts of the town). Such cases are not to be dealt with by ordinary courts. In the face of the late repentance and despair of the whole country law again found itself powerless.
