Alyona Getmanchuk presented the IWP’s recommendations in the Verkhovna Rada
November 16th Alyona Getmanchuk, IWP director, presented recommendaations concerning Ukrainian-US relations during a roundtable discussion in the Verkhovna Rada.The roundtable’s theme was “The consequences of the presidential election in the United States of America for Ukraine. Strategy for further action.” The meeting took place based on the initiative of the Verkhovna Rada’s foreign relations subcommittee on European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Alyona Getmanchuk presented the IWP’s memo concerning Ukraine’s politics on the USA after the election of the 45th head of the White House, as well as recommendations from the “Foreign Policy Audit: Ukraine-USA.”

Representatives of the legislative and executive powers and NGO’s discussed the results of the US presidential elections with the goal of developing a vision of future development of relations between Ukraine and the US.

Moderator Svitlana Zalishchuk, head of the Verkhovna Rada’s foreign relations subcommittee on European and Euro-Atlantic integration, summed up the results of the discussion in this manner:
– It is so far too early to make conclusions about how the structure of bilateral relations between the USA and Ukraine will change after the election of Donald Trump as the president of America. A calm and calculating approach is necessary in setting up communication with the new power in Washington
– The thesis that Ukrainian officials need to develop a unified strategy of relations with Washington and underline concrete goals and messages for the American side to clearly hear and understand has been generally approved.
– The participants declared the importance of correctly emphasizing those successes which our government has achieved in conducting reforms.
– An agreement was reached that Ukraine should be the first one to propose a strategy of relations with Washington without waiting for the first steps to be taken by the American side.
– Among Ukraine’s priorities defined by the experts in cooperation with the US was the security sphere and macrofinancial and economic assistance. Emphasis was placed on the importance of making clear to the American side the importance of the Ukrainian question for all of Central-Eastern Europe.
According to her, a series of ideas and proposition will be included in the recommendations with the results of the parliamentary hearings concerning foreign policy on December 7.

The IWP took part in the Ukrainian Silk Road Forum 2016
1 month ago the Institute of World Policy presented an audit of relations between Ukraine and China. Today, Sergiy Solodkyy, First Deputy Director of the IWP, took part in the Ukrainian Silk Road Forum.The goal of the forum was to transform ideas, including those stated the analytical center’s research, into practical steps in terms of political dialogue, the investment platform, and in questions of cultural interaction. The main goal of the conference, which was organized by Silk Link and the Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce, was to bring Ukrainian-Chinese relations to a new level.
Marina Poroshenko, the Head of the Petro Poroshenko Foundation; Hennadiy Zubko, Deputy Prime Minister; Iryna Herashchenko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada; Dmitro Shymkiv, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, and others took part in the Forum.

IWP analyst took part in the sixth Minsk Dialogue meeting
Daria Gaidai, Institute of World Policy analyst, took part in the sixth Minsk Dialogue meeting, which took place on November 1-2nd in the capital of Belarus. The theme of the international expert conference was “The Future of Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus: the intersection of foreign policy, security, and business”The expert initiative “Minsk Dialogue” (Belarus), the University of Giessen (Germany) and the Department of International Relations of the Belarusian State University presented as co-organizers of the conference.
Goals of the conference:
– To form a map of national, regional, and external approaches to the determination of challenges which stand before Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.
– To conduct a thorough SWOT-analysis of Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus in a system of international relations on the European continent.

IWP organized official visits to Prague and Berlin for RPR experts
Mykola Bielieskov, analyst of the Institute of World Policy, attended a panel with a delegation of experts from the Reanimation Package of Reforms on October 24-28th, 2016The visit was organized by the IWP along with partners from the Reanimation Package of Reforms and Transparency International Ukraine.
October 24-28th, 2016 Ukrainian analysts had a series of open and closed meetings in Berlin at the Bundestag Committee, German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chancellery Office, and DGAP (German Council on Foreign Relations) and SWP (German Institute for International and Security Affairs) analytical centers.
The delegation from Ukraine (5 members) presented to their German colleagues their evaluation of the situation with the reforms in the areas of anticorruption and economy. Potential forms of closer involvement from the EU in these processes were also discussed.

Angela Merkel’s key advisor concerning Ukraine, Abraham Knuth, stands with Ukrainian experts.
Analyst Mykola Bielieskov presented a Memo on “red lines” for the regulation of the conflict in the east of Ukraine, initiated by the IWP and prepared together with partners from other analytical centers. Moreover, during the meetings with the German partners emphasis was put on the need for the FRG’s active participation in the development of a road map for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, in particular for the creation of authentic conditions in the sphere of safety for the start of the political portion of regulation.

In addition to this, the Ukrainian delegation paid considerable attention to the critical need for keeping EU sanctions against Russia in place as a means of guaranteeing Moscow’s complete fulfillment of the Minsk agreements. As the meetings demonstrated, the German partners share the views expressed in the IWP memo, especially concerning safety conditions for voting.

The IWP coordinated the “Index of European integration of Eastern Partnership countries”
The Institute of World Policy coordinated the project “Index of European integration of Eastern Partnership countries” from Ukraine. In Kyiv on November 1st a meeting of experts intending to take part in preparing research took place.The goal of the initiative was to make known the tempo of actualization of reforms in Eastern Partnership countries via publication of a comprehensive monitoring report, as well as to conduct an advocacy campaign in Eastern Partnership countries and in the EU.
Our partners from member countries of the EU and Eastern Partnership came to take part in the methodological seminar in Kyiv. In particular, experts from Great Britain, Armenia, Belarus, and Lithuania came. Methodology for future research was developed by these experts, along with experts from the IWP and International Renaissance Foundation, taking into consideration the political and economic changes in the region.

Audit of Ukraine’s Foreign Policy. Index of Relations
On October 24, the Institute of World Policy together with Truman Agency presented the first edition of ‘Index of Relations’ within the ‘Foreign Policy Audit’ project.Every four months we will evaluate the relations’ dynamics on Ukraine’s key foreign policy directions: the U.S., the EU, Russia, and China. Besides IWP experts will prepare a special edition on certain topic. This time our special edition was titled ‘Does Transnistria Change the Game in the Region?’

Details about the research:
IWP analysts assessed the recent events in Ukrainian foreign policy within the key directions such as: the EU, USA, China, and Russia. The assessment is based not only on their observations but also on the exclusive comments of the Ukrainian officials, Ukrainian and foreign diplomats, and opinion leaders.
The study focuses on the events determining the bilateral relations’ as well as on the profound analysis of the prerequisites for shaping partner countries’ (regions’) approaches towards Ukraine.
The monitoring will be published on a regular basis, which will allow to observe the dynamics of bilateral relations’ development as well as to compare the forecasts with the current situation.
The expert group, in parallel with the qualitative analysis of the key foreign policy events, provides also an assessment in the quantitative terms (index).
“Audit for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements” was presented in Brussels
On October 18th, the IWP, together with partners from other analytical centers, presented in Brussels the analysis «Not so quiet on the Eastern Front: the audit of Minsk agreements and options for the reintegration of Ukraine».This report is the product of the combined efforts of experts from the Institute of World Politics, Vox Ukraine, the «Democratic Intitiaves» Foundation, and the Donetsk Institute of Information.
